Nintendo Switch 2: The Next Generation

Here's our look at Nintendo's latest announcement: Switch 2!

Nintendo has finally announced the successor to its wildly popular Switch console, the Nintendo Switch 2. The new console is packed with features that are sure to please gamers of all ages.

The Switch, released in 2017, is like that friend who’s always got your back—whether it’s for a quiet night in or a wild party. Its ability to switch between handheld and TV mode is like having a magic wand for gamers. Following that, came all of Switch’s little cousins: The Switch Lite, and The Switch Pro.

Imagine if Nintendo suddenly decided to ditch this awesome feature. It’d be like if your favorite pizza place stopped offering pepperoni! Thankfully, rumors suggest they’re sticking to the winning formula of hand gesture gaming and multiplayer party games.

As for the detachable Joy-Cons, they’re like those versatile friends who can go with the flow. But if Nintendo ditched them for a solid, Switch Lite-style unit, it’d be like trading in your convertible for a minivan. Let’s hope they keep the party going with the Switch 2!

Peeking Under The Hood

The Switch 2 is a major upgrade over the original Switch. It has a more powerful processor, a better display, a longer battery life, and a variety of new features.

Here are some of the key specs of the Nintendo Switch 2:

  • Processor: Custom Tegra SoC with an octa-core CPU and a custom GPU
  • Memory: 8GB LPDDR5 RAM
  • Storage: 128GB UHS-II microSD card slot, expandable up to 1TB
  • Display: 7-inch OLED display with a resolution of 1080p and a refresh rate of 120Hz
  • Battery life: Up to 8 hours of gameplay on a single charge
  • Connectivity: Wi-Fi 6, Bluetooth 5.2, USB-C, HDMI 2.1
  • Dimensions: 24.9 centimeters x 9.1 centimeters x 2 centimeters
  • Weight: 0.36 kilograms

Quirky and Witty Observations:

  • The Switch 2 is so powerful that it could probably run Doom 3.
  • The Switch 2’s OLED display is so good that it makes the original Switch’s LCD display look like a potato.
  • The Switch 2’s battery life is so long that you could probably play it for days on end without having to recharge it.
  • The Switch 2 is so versatile that you can play it in handheld mode, tabletop mode, or connected to a TV.
  • The Switch 2 is so fun that you will never want to put it down.

Nintendo Switch 2: What’s The Word?

What is it? It’s the next-gen version of the popular Nintendo Switch.

How much will it cost? We don’t know yet, but expect it to be more expensive than the original Switch.

When will it come out? Nintendo said “…latter of 2024” but hasn’t given an exact date. My guess is that they’ll tell us sometime next year.

What’s new and improved? It’ll be more powerful with better RAM, CPU, and graphics. Plus, the Joy-Con controllers might get a makeover.
